I have to write this note because I’m sick of replying to people or explaining why I support Obama. I am also sick of reading posts and rants based simply on opinion rather than fact. First let me say that I am registered as No Party… so don’t think I’m writing this because I’m a die hard democrat or I hate republicans. Everyone has the right to their own party affiliation. I just didn’t choose one because I like keeping an open mind and judging each candidate for their policies and not for their badge.

The guns law was only RIGHTFULLY put in place because in states like Florida, ANYBODY can buy a gun off the street and use it. WORKPLACES down here are trying to say they have the right to keep guns in their desks. TEACHERS want to keep guns in their desks. So now tell me, isn’t that gun law a little more sane sounding? New York already has a strict gun law where you need to register etc to get a gun.. they won’t be affected by it.

Don’t get me wrong, I am all for the right to bear arms, if you bear them the right way and go through the proper proceedings to register and rightfully own your weapon.
Saying that we need the gun law to protect us from “Terrorists” is extremely silly.
1) Terrorists get into this country because of a failed defense system that BUSH employed (and that McCain backed 90% of the time. It’s a fact).
2) PEOPLE having guns won’t do anything. Do you think that if people in the twin towers had GUNS they would have been saved?! No. It’s illogical to argue that having guns is to protect us from terrorists. If anything it should be used in our homes for personal protection and not allowed on the streets. You are more likely to be a target of violence if you have a gun. If you are being robbed and you pull out a gun, the one committing the act PROBABLY has a weapon in which case you will be shot or stabbed. If you had no right to own the gun and weren’t registered to it, you will most likely be held accountable for your own self being shot.

This world will NOT be a third world country. The definition of a third world country is as follows: “poverty, high birthrates, and economic dependence”.
1) We already have poverty.
2) We won’t have high birthrates because Obama SMARTLY supports the right for women.. the RIGHT.. for women to have an abortion should they choose. I am pro-choice. You can hate me now.
and 3) We are not economically dependent- his whole strategy is to break our country’s debt and set us back to how it was when Clinton was in office. IN A SURPLUS. Obama also supports alternative energy which will break us from DEPENDENCE on other country’s oil. So now, does that seem like third world to you?

He is also not bringing in a generation of “lazy fucks” as somebody said. People who think this are looking for a president to fix their own problems. It’s within a PERSON to work hard. People don’t work hard because of what president is elected. People work hard because of the VALUES instilled in then. He inspires hard work. Yes, he is taxing the “upper class” but that’s because if you actually look into the financial going on’s behind many of these people and corporations, they have money in places they shouldn’t and they have way more money than they even put on their books.

Stock holders of corporations have a law that states the corporation is responsible for maximizing their profit. It’s true. Look it up. That’s why corporations can keep bank accounts open overseas as well as “other buildings”. It’s an ethical dilemma, but basically if they don’t use those opportunities they aren’t doing the best for the corporation. It is not illegal.

Let me ask you something… when we want to pay for new programs, such as early childhood education.. or fix our BROKEN schools where kids don’t even know how to say the alphabet… where do you think this money comes from? The sky? Donuts? It comes from all of us. Ever heard of philanthropy? Big businesses should be willing to put money towards charity etc to help these programs. The “middle class” is still being taxed as well so don’t say they’re getting out of it. They aren’t getting a free ride. People need to stop using the president as an excuse to be lazy. I’m sick of “Mccain supporters” ranting because they feel like this country will turn socialists etc. What’s funny is that the people ranting aren’t even making enough for Obama’s plan to affect them! And most of them won’t!

I understand where people are coming from with a military background, or ones who have military loved ones… but if you paid attention to Obama’s plan, you would understand HOW he wants to draw them out. He’s keeping the military in but instead of going after the WRONG people, he’s sending them after the ACTUAL people responsible for all the wrong doings and terrorism going on. Why do military people support McCain so much? He hasn’t said any great plan to support his troops, he’s merely said he’ll keep them in there as long as needed to fight and kill. Obama wants to act like a true diplomat and attempt to find a civil way to sort out our problems. What is so wrong about that? He’s not withdrawing our military immediately regardless of what all the Mccain people are saying. That has already been falsified. He is not against war. He’s against war that is fought the WRONG way. On another note, the definition of ‘terrorist’ is one who strikes terror or fear in another being. Yes, they are terrorists, but we are also terrorists. We do plenty of things like invade their countries, bomb their lands, kill their people. They have the right to call us terrorists. It’s just a silly word that people are misusing in order to make things sound more dramatic.

And another thing… people didn’t just vote for him because he was black. People voted for him because they followed his speeches, researched him, understood his message, and decided it was for them. I’m also sick of all these people who supported McCain trying to play the “race card” and say that’s the only reason he got elected. Think of it this way… if Mccain was black, would you vote for him? If you LIKED his POLICIES and he was black, and EVERYTHING was the same in his campaign, would you vote for him? The answer would be yes if you truly believed in his plan. SO WHAT THE EFF?!

Obama doesn’t check the “black box”over the “white box” when he wants certain amenities or job opportunities! He went to an Ivy League Law school because he worked his ass off to get there. Not everyone can get into law school no matter what color/race/whatever you are. GRADES! It depends on grades. On how bright you are. It seems as if people are finding all these little things to pick on because the one they wanted to be president isn’t. What does it matter to you? Yes the president leads our country and turns our direction, but if you WANT to work hard, then DO it! People in this country like to bitch and moan and blame everybody but themselves for their own situation.

People say he uses the black race to his advantage?? Why?? Because he’s black and wanted to run for president? I mean.. do you expect him to magically turn white when he wants to run, just so ignorant people won’t say he’s using black people to his advantage? If black people want to vote for him, it’s because they WANT to. SOME people believe his policies. SOME people researched him from day one.

There’s all these people who just catch the news here and there and expect that they know everything about the person who is running. Ever heard of Media Bias? Why is it so hard for people to research things themselves? People are afraid of socialism.. well I have news for you, IT’S NOT SOCIALISM! A socialist is against free market and opportunity and believes everyone should be at the same level as everyone else. Obama has stated that he wants opportunity for everyone. If you work hard, you climb. If you work hard, you make money. He also said he still supports wall street, he only wants to put a few key regulations on them to make sure we don’t have a financial fall out like what happened a few weeks ago. A socialist would abolish free market and also abolish wall street.

Everyone is getting so heated about taxes when 1) everyone bitching about it won’t be affected because I can guarantee you most everyone I’ve heard say something about it doesn’t make over 70k a year and 2) Taxes are what pay for our country to run… people in this country are in the mindset that we are made out of unlimited money, when in reality we are borrowing from other countries and running up debt. But that’s the mentality of our country… people use credit like its drinking water and don’t expect to pay anybody back.

The greatest amount of votes from post graduate students went to Obama. I support free market, I’m a student, my degree will make me a lot of money. I voted for Obama. So what? What are you going to coin me as? Are you going to say I voted for him because he’s black? Are you going to say that since I’m italian/malaysian I voted for him because he’s not white? Are you going to say I voted for him because I got brainwashed by his speeches? Or are you going to say that I voted for him because I made an educated decision, understand politics, read his tax plans, followed his campaign, and read/watched things other than the news that had to do with both running candidate’s history? Hint: That last one was the right answer if you couldn’t figure it out.

Everyone has a right to their own opinion except when it’s based on ignorance. I don’t want this to sound harsh but there’s a million other people who think this way because they’re angry Mccain isn’t in office.. and they’re angry for no legitimate reason.

TONIGHT WAS THE NIGHT HISTORY WAS MADE!!!

OBAMA WAS ELECTED PRESIDENT!!!!

HELLLOOO new america, free from stupidity and finally on the right track with a compassionate leader!

earlier: History could very well be in the process as we speak.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/11/04/election.president/index.html?iref=mpstoryview

Now… not that I’m pushy or anything, but we all know who I’m supporting in this election. I’ve been waiting for this day forever! And, admittedly, dreading it since I tried to early vote last week, stood in line for 3 hours and failed miserably. I went to bed at 1 AM and got up at the crack of down (6 am) to get prepared to stand in an extremely long line. Now, to understand how important this is to me, you have to understand this one thing- I have not gotten up at the crack of dawn more than 4 times this semester. Yep. I did it for Obama because I want him to win SO BAD!

Early voting was going on for the past two weeks and it had a 3-4 hour line at any given day/time. This worked in my favor. The line was SO short today, I was out by 8 am. I also found out something yesterday that was extremely sad. The grandmother that Obama always talked about in his speeches, the one who pretty much raised him and instilled his values, passed away from cancer yesterday. The day before the election. She will not get a chance to see history be made if he’s elected president. The reason he is where he is today was because of her, and it’s just heart breaking to know that she won’t get to watch the end of the white house race.

I am so excited for tonight! I am officially a loser and will be cuddled on the couch watching CNN (the real kind Jenna.. haha) until they figure out who won! How exciting is it going to be to finally break away from bush and his shenanigans once and for all! I will write more later. That is all.

I read an interesting thing today regarding voting. I know that when you go into the polls to vote, you automatically assume that the order you vote in doesn’t matter- all that matters is who you say you’re voting for. WELLLLLL I have news for you. That’s not how it works. I wasn’t aware of this so I figured I would help make everyone else aware since I just heard about it. When you go into the polls to vote, you have to actually tick Barack’s name first, and THEN “Straight democratic”, or else it doesn’t register that you voted for Obama as president. I don’t know why it does that but it does.

It is claimed that this will only happen in NC because it has been caught in the other places it occurred, but don’t be stupid and trust that. Please click his name first then “Straight democratic”. Also be aware that if you go to the polls wearing anything electoral, even a button, you will not be able to vote. Some states are nice and will allow you to cover up your pin or put on a jacket to cover your shirts, but not all states are like that. They are hoping that you go home and decide to stay there rather than fight the line.

I just thought I would let you guys know. Early voting has begun as of Monday, October 20th… beat the rush, get your butts out there and vote! [For Obama. Just kidding haha vote for whoever you want to... just don't tell me about it. Lol]

I’m not sure how many of you were watching the first presidential debate tonight in Mississippi between Obama and Mccain, but I was, because the boy and I love politics. We watched it in HD (because we just discovered that CNN has an HD channel) and WOW.. I don’t ever want to be filmed with an HD camera. They are so powerful that they completely transformed the reporters from what we were used to seeing them as, before our very eyes. Crazy. You can see every single blemish on their faces, along with makeup. Haha. I would prefer if the whole world couldn’t see my every pore, thanks. Also, Anderson Cooper is alarmingly ghostly looking on HD.

The debate was interesting, first of all, because I was somewhat surprised that Mccain actually did very well. Now, I may not like Mccain or any of his views on political issues, BUT I must concede that he did a very good job debating. Kudos to him. I’ve watching a ton of interviews with him and sometimes he seems like he’s struggling to grasp answers for the reporters. He did not do that in this debate, and he kept a fairly cool head. Obama was just as I expected, albeit he did seem to get a little frustrated when Mccain kept going on tangents about things. He had tried to interrupt a lot but Mccain just kept talking.

You can find the complete debate transcript here: First Presidential Debate.

They had started the debate asking “where do you stand on the financial recovery plan?” There was quite some teeth pulling here, each candidate had seemed to stretch out the answer and not completely take one firm stance. They left it pretty much open.

Obama had stated :

“No. 1, we’ve got to make sure that we’ve got oversight over this whole process; $700 billion, potentially, is a lot of money.

No. 2, we’ve got to make sure that taxpayers, when they are putting their money at risk, have the possibility of getting that money back and gains, if the market — and when the market returns.

No. 3, we’ve got to make sure that none of that money is going to pad CEO bank accounts or to promote golden parachutes.

And, No. 4, we’ve got to make sure that we’re helping homeowners, because the root problem here has to do with the foreclosures that are taking place all across the country.”

Mccain had ended his answer with this:

“But I want to emphasize one point to all Americans tonight. This isn’t the beginning of the end of this crisis. This is the end of the beginning, if we come out with a package that will keep these institutions stable.

And we’ve got a lot of work to do. And we’ve got to create jobs. And one of the areas, of course, is to eliminate our dependence on foreign oil.”

No clear answer from either, just a synopsis of what they both have seen, and what they wanted to see in the future.

Then, the host clearly tried to turn them on each other and make them vicious. He kept saying “Do you disagree??? If you do, say it directly to him! TELL HIM!” Maybe not with that much vigor, but you get the idea. Then they went on to talk about what each candidate thought was the fundamental difference between their plans. Mccain’s big point was that the government suffers from sever overspending; which is true.

” Well, the first thing we have to do is get spending under control in Washington. It’s completely out of control. It’s gone — we have now presided over the largest increase in the size of government since the Great Society.”

What he didn’t say (that Obama nicely pointed out) was

“Senator McCain is proposing — and this is a fundamental difference between us — $300 billion in tax cuts to some of the wealthiest corporations and individuals in the country, $300 billion.

Now, $18 billion is important; $300 billion is really important.

And in his tax plan, you would have CEOs of Fortune 500 companies getting an average of $700,000 in reduced taxes, while leaving 100 million Americans out.

So my attitude is, we’ve got to grow the economy from the bottom up. What I’ve called for is a tax cut for 95 percent of working families, 95 percent.”

So, for everybody who seems to assume that Obama plans on raising taxes and Mccain plans to lower taxes, think again. Do you research. Mccain will cut taxes but only for large corporations and businesses. Obama plans to cut taxes for 95% of working families, which are the ones who need the tax breaks more. To be more clear, the only people taxed more will be ones who make over $250,000.

Mccain had then rebutted:

“Now, Senator Obama didn’t mention that, along with his tax cuts, he is also proposing some $800 billion in new spending on new programs.”

That is also TRUE, except if you understand how the economy works, you will understand why this isn’t necessarily a bad idea. Spending on new programs that is. Our economy is based on our education and ability to be innovative. Our minds have to be constantly challenged and we need outlets to build these ideas, or foundations to help us form them in the first place. If Mccain is all about free market (which he is- and so am I. That is probably the only thing I disagree with Obama on) he should understand that having new programs to stimulate the economy is a positive thing. The economy is directly correlated to the consumer’s confidence. When confidence level falls, spending and borrowing falls. When spending and borrowing falls, businesses lose money. When businesses lose money, they start to lay off workers and stop borrowing as much. When the businesses AND consumers stop attempting to borrow, then the banks start trying to push out subprime loans. Then, deflation occurs, interest rates rise, and people can’t pay back said loans that were given to them wrongfully in the first place. TA DA! Which goes full circle back to consumers not spending money and being in the hole.

The free market approach in economics says that the economy will always correct itself when it is left to its own means. Which has been a tried and true path before. The little recessions would always correct themselves; its the way of the market. The problem with what is happening now is that this is reminiscent of the great depression. If you pull up information about the great depression and read about the downward spiral, you will see how the market had plummeted initially after cheap credit was repeatedly given out, which essentially DID help in the short term, but what a killer in the long term.

You can’t project just short term benefits in the economy. There is always a long lasting effect that is often overlooked. So after all this credit was given out and the economy picked itself back up, things were good for a while. Then deflation occurred and everybody who has these massive debts could not pay monthly and were starting to default on their loans. When this occurred, consumer spending was cut drastically, which prevented the spawning of new products, or even a need for the preexisting products people needed to live their every day lives. Businesses failed; layoffs occurred. THEN when THIS occurred, the banks began to tighten up their loan systems, which essentially spirals into a vicious circle. Point blank: People and businesses had no money. The bottom of the market fell out. You know the phrase “history repeats itself”? Well I’m a total believer in that, especially when the feds don’t notice the tell tale signs but everyone else does.

So back to present day: Does this sound familiar? Isn’t this exactly what has been going on in the Bush administration that every body seemed to turn a blind eye to?! Obama had warned in the previous year about this possibly happening, and nobody did anything to improve it. There were still subprime mortgages being handed out to people who couldn’t even afford a car, let alone a house. In retrospect, we did this to ourselves. I am a total advocate for free market, but I think when we’re so far down like this, the government should intervene and help. The government is essentially here for the people, the people aren’t here for the government. It’s their duty to keep us safe and step in when need be, but not breathe down our necks dealing out regulations like we’re playing Go Fish. Wall street wouldn’t be such a fantastic thing if it had 43294 zillion regulations saying they can’t do this, or they HAVE to do that. Controlling investors is a no no.

What was the solution last year? The miraculous stimulus check. Which I did not get because I was a student and didn’t work the year before. Now, I can tell you, if I got that stimulus check, I would have went out shopping or bought something glamorous.

The whole plan of the stimulus check/rebate was because they wanted people to spend the money frivolously; such as on a new TV or clothes. That would stimulate the economy and ultimately would have prevented us from being in the recession that we are in now. That didn’t happen. What DID happen was that people spent the money on necessities such as paying back bills and putting money onto their mortgages. This did not help in the way it was expected. That’s why our confidence is still low. This was a good move on the part of the government, but they should have known that when families are stressed for money, the last thing they are going to do is go out and buy and new boat so that they can eat ramen noodles out of the kitchen, with their brand spankin new boat STILL docked because they can’t afford gas to explore anywhere.

ANYWAYS! Now that I’ve lectured you about the economy, let’s move on. The next lead question was:

“As president, as a result of whatever financial rescue plan comes about and the billion, $700 billion, whatever it is it’s going to cost, what are you going to have to give up, in terms of the priorities that you would bring as president of the United States, as a result of having to pay for the financial rescue plan?”

Summed up, Obama had said,

“We have to have energy independence, so I’ve put forward a plan to make sure that, in 10 years’ time, we have freed ourselves from dependence on Middle Eastern oil by increasing production at home, but most importantly by starting to invest in alternative energy, solar, wind, biodiesel, making sure that we’re developing the fuel-efficient cars of the future right here in the United States, in Ohio and Michigan, instead of Japan and South Korea.

We have to fix our health care system, which is putting an enormous burden on families. Just — a report just came out that the average deductible went up 30 percent on American families.

…

The third thing we have to do is we’ve got to make sure that we’re competing in education. We’ve got to invest in science and technology. China had a space launch and a space walk. We’ve got to make sure that our children are keeping pace in math and in science.”

Mccain had said,

“The point — the point is — the point is, we need to examine every agency of government.

First of all, by the way, I’d eliminate ethanol subsidies. I oppose ethanol subsidies.

I think that we have to return — particularly in defense spending, which is the largest part of our appropriations — we have to do away with cost-plus contracts. We now have defense systems that the costs are completely out of control.

We tried to build a little ship called the Littoral Combat Ship that was supposed to cost $140 million, ended up costing $400 million, and we still haven’t done it.

So we need to have fixed-cost contracts. We need very badly to understand that defense spending is very important and vital, particularly in the new challenges we face in the world, but we have to get a lot of the cost overruns under control.

I know how to do that.”

So after all this, they pretty much kept going over what they have previously said, interjecting new random thoughts in between. All in all, over economic issues, they had held their own ground and stuck with their own regime. The second half of the debate went to Foreign Policy. It had boiled down to Mccain stating that we can’t let up with our silent treatment.

“What Senator Obama doesn’t seem to understand that if without precondition you sit down across the table from someone who has called Israel a “stinking corpse,” and wants to destroy that country and wipe it off the map, you legitimize those comments.

This is dangerous. It isn’t just naive; it’s dangerous. And so we just have a fundamental difference of opinion.”

I disagree with this statement. Playing the whole “silent treatment” game is what 5 year olds do. Diplomacy involves hearing both sides and cooperating. Sitting down to talk to foreign diplomats will not harm the US in any way at all. If anything it will strengthen us because other countries will finally see that we aren’t the supposed arrogant snots that they think we are. They will realize that we are actually willing to fix problems that are occurring as a result of wrong from both sides. Part of the reason that I think the middle east has issues with us is because we put on this facade of being better than everyone and being in control. Vulnerability isn’t always a bad thing, and maybe seeing that we do indeed have some vulnerability will remind them that we are just the same as them, and are willing to work on something that will benefit everyone. Wars start from misconceptions.

Larry King sat down with Ahmadinejad the other day, and had a very intelligent and informative conversation with him. Ahmadinejad answered his questions and explained why he feels the way he does on certain issues. He stated that this whole feud was pretty much one sided; that America was causing it and Iran didn’t want any of it. Nuclear bombs defy their religion and they had their nuclear plans looked over and inspected more than any other country in the world. He said that viewing them as a threat was silly, and America has a one sided view on everything, when we’re the ones that other countries are beginning to frown upon and wonder about. Did you see him try to jump across the table and strangle Larry King? Did you hear him utter any obscure threats towards the American People? Did you see his temper flare once? Did you see him dodge any questions and act shady? No. They sat down, person to person, and discussed. It’s really not out of the president’s grasp to do that, and for Mccain to say that shouldn’t happen could very well be one of the things that is making world peace elusive. It’s narrow views such as Mccain’s which starts to blind side everyone who listens to him.

Mccain was a little stronger in the foreign policy section of the debate, obviously because he has spent more time overseas. I’m also sure you’ve heard (many MANY times) that he was a prisoner of war and blah blah blah. (Which does not mean he will make a good president by the way. They are not correlated. Just because you can fight a war doesn’t mean you can lead a country). Mccain stated that he wants to keep on fighting the way, and not back down, while Obama said we are misallocating our soldiers, and that Al Qaeda is the biggest threat. We are totally not on top of that by the way. They’re definitely getting the best of the situation because America is just one big dumbass.

Mccain seems to think that we are winning in Iraq,

“I’m afraid Senator Obama doesn’t understand the difference between a tactic and a strategy. But the important — I’d like to tell you, two Fourths of July ago I was in Baghdad. General Petraeus invited Senator Lindsey Graham and me to attend a ceremony where 688 brave young Americans, whose enlistment had expired, were reenlisting to stay and fight for Iraqi freedom and American freedom.

I was honored to be there. I was honored to speak to those troops. And you know, afterwards, we spent a lot of time with them. And you know what they said to us? They said, let us win. They said, let us win. We don’t want our kids coming back here.

And this strategy, and this general, they are winning. Senator Obama refuses to acknowledge that we are winning in Iraq.”

Considering the body count of this war, I doubt we’re winning. What conclusions have we reached by being over there, other than that we need to pull out before we lose all our soldiers? Have we come to any solution? Have we come any closer to finding Bin Ladin? Nix, no and nay.

One thing the news was picking on was their different debate styles. Mccain was being viewed as stronger because he talked down to Obama, saying “You don’t understand. You don’t get it” over and over.

“I’m afraid Senator Obama doesn’t understand the difference between a tactic and a strategy.”

“I don’t think that Senator Obama understands that there was a failed state in Pakistan when Musharraf came to power”

“Senator Obama doesn’t seem to understand there is a connected between the two.”

“He doesn’t understand that Russia committed serious aggression against Georgia.”

“Senator Obama still doesn’t quite understand — or doesn’t get it — that if we fail in Iraq, it encourages al Qaeda. They would establish a base in Iraq.”

etc, etc, so on and so forth. There are way too many to put in there. Obama had a different debate style. Rather than talk down to Mccain, he would pick out a point that he had agreed with, then proceed to diffuse the rest of the argument by bringing up counter points. That’s the way debates are supposed to be constructed. You agree, then you disagree and diffuse. You don’t just attack the other candidate. I do agree that it gave Mccain this aura of being “stronger” to some, because he was acting with a superiority complex, but I think that Obama was trying to keep things on more casual terms and not make it seem as if there was a dividing line between the parties. He was playing the right cards.

“No, actually, I think Senator McCain and I agree for the most part on these issues. Obviously, I disagree with this notion that somehow we did not forcefully object to Russians going into Georgia.”

I started this blog promising myself that I would attempt to write this objectively, but then I thought if somebody wanted objective, they could go watch the news. Politics is something I have a definite view on. Like I said before though, while I [obviously] am for Obama, I consider myself an independent. John Mccain did a great job in this debate, somebody should give him a cookie. It was a pleasant surprise and definitely made it more interesting. I can’t wait for the Biden/Palin debate, because both of those candidates are little sparky fireballs.

What I want people to take away from this blog is one important message:

DO YOUR RESEARCH ON EACH CANDIDATE! Don’t just catch the news every now and then (because the news puts their own spin and ideas on what’s going on) and CERTAINLY don’t just vote for one or the other because your family or friends are. Don’t say that you know what’s going on with each candidate because you catch a campaign commercial or two, and watch the news once every two weeks. I’ve been following this campaign daily since practically day one, so I know how the media can spin things. Do you own research and keep informed… the RIGHT way.

TAX BREAKDOWN

PICK EACH AND COMPARE SIDE BY SIDE

Don’t lead this country down the wrong path because of stubbornness or ignorance. The best way to make the right decision is to be informed. I can’t stress this enough. Go back and read the debate from the link I sent you. Get a clear picture.

On a completely unrelated note, I’m working with Fancy again! She finally had her teeth floated so she’s not grumpy anymore and ready to train. I went over yesterday and my thighs and calves are KILLING me. She’s still stiff going towards the left side, so every time we ride into a corner I have to use my inside leg to bend her around it. Very sore. Ow. BUT! She did amazingly well and I’m happy that she’s rideable again. I almost acquired her as my own horse haha because Julie might be getting another one that she really fell in love with, and needed somebody to take fancy. Since I’ve been riding fancy for the past year she offered her to me, but I don’t have the money to board her down here. I’m a broke college student, and the new house doesn’t have land where I can keep her. I had the luxury of my parents helping my board my horses in NY, but now that I’m older I have to find a pay to pay on my own. Oh well. The time will come when I’m financially stable and working to have a horse again.

I have another shoot coming up. I’m looking forward to it. We’re doing it down by Rollins college, which is very Saratoga like, and has cobble stone streets. So pretty.

I would like to thank Mccain for making us MORE sure (or sure, if we weren’t already) that Obama is indeed it for the next president. If you’ve been keeping up with my blog, you know I’m an avid Obama supporter, and I think he’s exactly what we need to help this country flourish once again. I was watching the Democratic Convention, and his speech was AMAZING! I would throw some quotes in here but, really, there were so many awesome things that you may as well just watch it yourself. John Mccain conveniently picked the governor of Alaska (who was a hockey mom and a PTA mom… and happened to make her way up to governor.. of ALASKA) who also has children (one with down syndrome) and has less experience than Obama does, as his VP… Is that a little weird to you? I don’t really know what on earth he was trying to do. Republicans seem to think this was a good move on his part, but I just don’t see it.

What happens if she needs to step in and take up his chair for a while? Is she going to know what to do? I was told once in my politics class that essentially the VP does most of the decisions and the President is actually just a tie breaker. If that’s the case (and how it “really” works in there) then he’s in trouble. Obama chose Biden, who is fully capable of walking in there and taking over if need be. I haven’t even HEARD of Palin’s name before.

Brief interlude: I have a mosquito bite that is the size of a small tumor on my arm. it’s extremely itchy, a little disturbing, and really annoying.

Anyway, I switched so that I’m registered to vote in Florida, so I don’t have to do an absentee ballot in NY. I was watching the RNC last night… has anybody else noticed that Laura Bush is somewhat reminiscent of a Stepford Wife? Okay I should stop. I know some of my readers are Republicans, and politics isn’t supposed to be about dividing people, but uniting people. Though doesn’t it seem that it’s taken that direction? The dividing path?

I’m well aware this blog is probably making NO sense (and less so than any of my other blogs) but I just woke up and I’ve taken three sips of my coffee. My brain is all jumbly and I SHOULD be going to the gym, but I can’t get shane up and I’m really nice and cozy under this blanket… I’ll probably expand/make sense of this once I get back from class.

On another note, my dad made an offer on a house! If everything goes well and the bank accepts his offer, then shane and I can move in this month! I’m soooo excited because I’ll finally have a place to decorate that isn’t massivly huge like my parent’s house in NY. This one is only 1600 SF as opposed to 4000+. So we shouldn’t have too much empty space in there. Though I must admit, when we were house hunting, all I wanted to do was move back to NY and back into our house after seeing the houses down here. What a difference. I really prefer the style up north to the style down here. But it has a FIREPLACE! Totally unneccesary, but extremely aesthetically pleasing.

mmmmm. cofffeeeeeeee. That is all for now. Be back later to edit this.

so for anybody who has been watching the news, you might notice a little storm called ‘tropical storm fay’ that’s been badgering the hell out of Florida. It came off the coast, got on land… left land onto the coast.. picked up more speed, came back.. and now it’s expected to do that two more times. Meanwhile, we’ve been having a constant barrage of rain.. rain.. and more rain. Honestly I’m sick of it. I went back home to NY for a wedding and… RAIN. What a surprise.

We attempted to brave the storm a couple of times. We went to the gym (actually RAN to the gym) which wasn’t a good idea. I looked like I got soaked with a hose by the time I got in there. Also, our hallway outside the door is like a wind tunnel and I’m liable to get picked up and swept away.

OH! That reminds me (don’t ask how) but I dyed my hair back down to it’s supposed natural color. I was wrong. Completely wrong. Shane- you were right. I said it! I picked a color that was brown/black (cause my hair is a dark chocolate color naturally) and it looks BLACK! I look like I’m spanish… and with a name like selena, it’s a little easier to think that.

I already get spoken spanish too all the time. Actually, the chinese food delivery guy broke out all these languages trying to guess what I am. He’s like ‘habla espanol?’ I’m like ‘No?’ so he’s like.. ‘you look spanish’. I’m like ‘well, I’m not. I’m italian and malaysian”. So then he says something in Italian which I don’t understand (my mom is fluent but I never learned it, I learned dutch instead) and I’m like WHAT?!?!?!?!??!

Stop speaking different languages to me. No hablo espanol. Ik spreek een weinig Nederlands. Non parlo affatto italiano. Got it? Thanks.

Anyway. We’ve been having 20-30 MPH winds, and gusts up to 40 MPH. Our lovely apartment window is leaking (Which they were supposed to fix last time it happened) and I was up until 6 am switching towels because every little bang of the window and drip of water woke me up. We all know I wake up for the slightest sound and shane sleeps like a rock. Lucky him.

So we’re expected to have rain for another few days. My dad has decided to buy a house for us down here while we’re in school (which is extremely nice of him because rent is way too high here) and also so that once we’re done with school and leave, he can rent it for extra income. This will alleviate the leaky window problem. Seriously, it was like chinese water torture. Highly effective might I add.

Global warming at its finest. Haha.

I have my UCF orientation tomorrow (given that the rain holds up) which is about 6 hours long. Their campus is beautiful and I’m getting really bored of summer here. It rains way too much to do anything fun so I’m pretty much trapped in the apartment all the time. It’s enough to drive somebody insane.

One thing I’m excited for is that UCF has a bazillion free training programs you can do in their gym… I plan on taking kick boxing (so not only will I be a black belt in tae kwon do but also somebody who can.. do whatever it is that kickboxers do) and maybe yoga. Plus if we move from this apartment complex into a house, it’ll be easier to stay on campus and use the gym rather than go to Planet Fitness.

So back to politics. Obama and Mccain should be announcing their VP’s soon. I’m really curious who Obama is going to pick. For those of you who haven’t read any of my earlier stuff, I’m 100% for Obama. Election time is getting closerrrrrr!!!! I’m so excited! I really wanted to put a poll in here to see who is for Obama and who is for Mccain but I haven’t figured out how to do that yet.

Anyway, that’s all for now.. I really don’t feel like writing more, I’m tired and neeeeeeeeeed (<— totally guilty of doing the girl thing.. don’t ask) to do dishes so I can eat something :)

I hope Obama gets elected for president. That’s who I’m voting for. Everytime I watch Clinton talk I get disgusted. I can see through everything she’s proposing. I was listening to a late night show that was (not surprisingly) mocking Clinton, and everything that is said about her is true. She’s been in the white house for about 15 years. She’s sucked into the way of politics and has the mindset of “say what they want to hear, do what you planned originally”. I know a lot of people are saying that she should be elected because 1) she’s a woman (which I seriously don’t care about. I’m all for women being powerful and all that jazz, but this is a clear cut case of the woman who is running having the possibility to completely screw this country up more than *gasp* Bush. Wait, that’s not even possible. Silly me.) and 2) because she’s technically backed by Bill Clinton who has had some presidency experience (sans the sexual rendezvous in the oval office. That’s why I say “some”.). Now, Clinton WAS a good present. But he was also very passive. A little too passive. Bush has clearly fucked up our economy beyond repair, but at least he DID something. Clinton just kind of avoided everything. Avoidance does work I suppose, but I think it’s time we actually have a President who is willing to work with the country and not just tell us what they think is right to do, and then enforce it regardless of what they’re ACTUALLY doing to us. Referring back to my point about bush actually doing things …Bush “did” things… like try to bomb everybody, starts wars, and hunt down katrina to bring her to justice (haha… if you didn’t hear about that it’s pretty funny). There’s a reason why he’s the most hated president in history and also the butt of every political joke in the 21st century. Hillary Clinton has a bogus healthcare system she’s trying to push through. She wants universal healthcare, and healthcare provided to EVERYBODY. The concept itself is not bad, but the results will be horrible. It’s not just going to be given to us either. We have to pay for it even if we can’t afford it. If you don’t have the luxury of having your parents pay for healthcare (which thankfully I was blessed with) then you’re pretty much screwed. You’re going to have penalties and fines to pay, when you just should have paid for the damn healthcare to begin with. She had mentioned once that she wants to make Doctors government workers. Which means medical school would be more affordable, and the standards would be lowered. Do you REALLY want some low grade doctor working on you, even though you have free healthcare? No, it doesn’t add up. You’ll have to send out to get medical operations that seem “out of the ordinary” or possibly “unneccesary” to get approved by a board. This alone will take a few months time, 2 minimum. I’m sorry, but when it comes to medicine I don’t think that’s a place to skimp. I think our healthcare is just fine. I know medicare and medicaid is something that we all take out of our paychecks (unwillingly) but at least it’s going to people who can’t afford it. If you want good healthcare, you have to work hard to get it. It’s not like we’re not providing healthcare at all, and there’s alot of pro-bono work that gets done for cases that are extreme. I probably sound like an asshole right about now, and I don’t meant to come off like I’m sitting on a high horse, but I don’t want out system to get any worse than it already is. Obama wants to do something about the problems we have right now, and work them from the inside out. He actually wants to change the way things are, rather than mask our poverty and turn us into socialists. Oh, did I mention that Hilary wants to push us towards socialism? She wants everybody to be equal, and have the same opportunities… which is nice. But not attainable. That’s like saying we want world peace. No matter how hard we work towards it, we can’t control human nature. It is in human nature to strive for the best, be above and beyond, and be competitive. We want to be the best, have the best, make the most out of our lives. Why take away capitalism? One reason why our country is considered the land of the free is because we’re allowed to build our own success. Yes, it’s unfair that some people are filthy rich and could build a swimming pool of their money and swim laps in it, but at the same time, they DID something to get there. It wasn’t just handed to them. And if it was, at least their parents had done something to get there. It was all hard work, no matter what way you look at it. Why should the rich be handicapped for persevering to get there? Instead of punishing the rich, find ways to help the poor. Instead of whining about how our country is in so much poverty, DO something about it. Help the poor. Taking away things people already have is not going to achieve anything. This is why I’m voting for Obama. It will be a madhouse if Clinton gets elected, she’s going to ruin us. Notice I haven’t said anything about Mccain … … ready? waaaait for it…. Yup. That’s what I have to say about him. Nothing. I don’t want him in office, he’s too damn old. And for all of you who don’t want Obama to be president just because he’s black, grow up. He can do a better job than anybody we’ve had in office and anybody else running. Don’t let color be an issue, that’s for the narrow minded and judgmental.

So another thing I heard about are Blackwater troops? I haven’t done much research into it, and I only heard about it briefly, but I understand that Blackwater is a private organization that sends troops to Iraq to complete missions aside from the federal governments key points. They are a little more ruthless than the american troops and don’t necessarily follow the US guidelines. What I don’t understand is that yes, they came over here, they bombed us, we suffered, people died… they’re terrorists. But terrorists are not only confined to Iraq. We are terrorists as well. No, I’m not anti-america or any of that, don’t take this post the wrong way. My professor was talking about this a few weeks ago and it really does make you think. A terrorist by definition is this-

1.

a person, usually a member of a group, who uses or advocates terrorism.

2.

a person who terrorizes or frightens others.

Yes, it is true that they fit this definition. OH NO. the blog stole my font size… it won’t let me change it back. Hmmm.. alright well ignore that then. Anyways, yes, they provoked terror in the American people. But aren’t we, by definition, terrorists as well? They are acting through religion and private groups as terrorists and suicide bombers. They are doing what their culture (and not the whole culture, a sub culture) tells them is right. Well we’re storming into their land, terrorizing people who haven’t done ANYTHING at all in search for the terrorists who afflicted our country with the horrid 9/11 situation. We’re killing tons of people in the process. Meanwhile, now we have this “blackwater” group, who is a private organization, acting like troops and fighting over there. WE are terrorizing them. Keep an open mind here, think about it how I am. In their minds, we have people over there killing for the will of OTHER people and groups that they have no clue about it. They feel about us the way we feel about them. It’s not right. I seriously think America needs to step back and rethink this whole strategy. Politics has turned into a big hypocrisy, and we’re out there doing exactly EVERYTHING that we stand against. I dunno. This is sounded a little rebellious so I better stop here. I may continue to write later, but vote for Obama. Don’t let Clinton sink her pointy little claws into the white house.
