… I think I prefer being on the beach when the sun is setting, and the air is warm with a touch of a gentle breeze flowing through the air. There’s something really peaceful and beautiful about watching the sky change through colors somewhat resembling rainbow sherbet. This video I uploaded on here is from when we were on cocoa beach yesterday. We saw dolphins! I tried to catch one on video… AND I DID! It was really cute. Look carefully and you shall see it around 34-35 seconds in. For some reason it’s counting backwards… why? It’s beyond me.
There is something in the air
The beach, nostradamus, and some chaos madness
First, let me start by saying that I just got back from THE most relaxing and amazing vacation for thanksgiving. It was definitely much needed, because I seriously feel like I’m going to pull my hair our from all the stress of school. I’ll forewarn you- never take four ’4′ credit classes at the same time. I almost took 5 because I normally take a full semester, but thank god I didn’t or I would be slamming my head into the wall by now. ANYWAY! We went to anna maria island with the Hatfields (who are like my other family) for 4 days. We spent every day, almost, by the beach. I got a glorious tan. Here is a little picture to wet your appetite:

Okay! now on to more things! I was watching this show on Nostradamus last night that completely fascinated me. I know what you’re thinking… he was just some insane old man who claimed to be a prophet. He may very well have been, but I have been pondering if there is any truth to what the man wrote and predicted. I won’t bore you with the hardcore scriptures and what not, because frankly, you can look that up on your own. Lol. I did find that he was using algorithms to make his prophecies. He was using the cover of mysticism because at that point in time, science and math were not acceptable means to predict anything. Back then was a time when astrology still ran rampant and people wanted to believe that things from the heavens were controlling their lives. So these algorithms that he formed could predict blocks of times when certain things can happen.
I strongly believe in the idea that EVERYTHING has a pattern to it. It may not be immediately noticeable, but given enough time, things will repeat themselves into a pattern. It may even take millions of years- but if you can track it, it will revert back to the beginning and start all over again. This is where I start to sound like a mad scientist I suppose, because I have to be a little nuts to be able to wrap my head around this. So- the chaos theory. Have you heard of it? The chaos theory says:
In mathematics, chaos theory describes the behavior of certain dynamical systems – that is, systems whose states evolve with time – that may exhibit dynamics that are highly sensitive to initial conditions (popularly referred to as the butterfly effect). As a result of this sensitivity, which manifests itself as an exponential growth of perturbations in the initial conditions, the behavior of chaotic systems appears to be random. This happens even though these systems are deterministic, meaning that their future dynamics are fully defined by their initial conditions, with no random elements involved. This behavior is known as deterministic chaos, or simply chaos.
WHAT?! Yeah. If you’re any normal person you’re probably going “what the eff” and scratching your head. Lucky for me, I used to love the idea of the chaos theory so I took the liberty of looking up everything, and morphing it into something understandable and not gibberish-like.
In the easiest way that I can explain, the chaos theory basically states that things start from a certain point, and evolve. This evolution seems to be random, but is ultimately deterministic; meaning that the outcome is directly related to the beginning and the path that the function took. It’s like taking pieces into a whole. The pieces may seem completely random and erratic, but they form and function something entirely different, which was completely purposeful. While this doesn’t directly relate to nostradamus or his algorithms, it does go back to my little diddy about how everything has a pattern to it, even if its not immediately recognizable. The earth is made of billions upon billions of particles, matter, and molecules. To explain it better, when asking whether an electron has a noticable pattern when moving from one energy level to another, the answer would be this:
Short answer; the motion is completely deterministic, but not predictable in the everyday, macroscopic sense. The more accurately you try to measure momentum of the electron in transit, the less you will know about its position.
And VOILA! Point proven. So what I’m pretty much trying to say, is that before you dismiss a “crazy prophet”, take a minute and look at how scientists and mathematicians really work. They use numbers to predict behavior. Albeit, not necessarily people. But I believe that all people have a behavioral pattern that can ultimately be broken down into numbers if observed for a long enough time, therefore making their future motions highly predictable. Once that is figured out, it can be formed into an algorithm which can keep predicting it based on a set formula. DO YOU KNOW WHAT THIS COULD POSSIBLY MEAN!??!?!!?
… It means I need to stop overanalyzing things. The end.
Why so serious?
So first off, I would like to say- GO SEE DARK KNIGHT. IMMEDIATELY. Preferably in an i-max movie theater if you have one near by. This was the most amazing movie I think I’ve seen in a long time. It was sold out in i-max for three days/nights in a row. We finally stole tickets to the 1:30 am showing on sunday night/monday morning. I had to plug my ears and cover my eyes the whole weekend because everybody and their mother was talking about it. Definitely worth the $15.00 in i-max. Go see. Now.
Both Christian Bale and Heath Ledger put out astonishing performances. I’m a little bias towards Joker however.
For those who haven’t heard (or live under an extremely large rock that covers most of the world) Heath Ledger died in January of a prescription drug overdose. This was his last movie, along with some other one that was in production. I’m not really sure what it was called and I’m really too lazy to look it up.
Don’t get me wrong, Jack Nicholson delivered a pretty good Joker, but Heath just took it to a completely new and sinister level. Now, I know acting takes talent… and alot of it to get on the big screen. But there are some actors who take on a role, and when the movie premieres, you don’t even realize who the actor is anymore. You can’t see a speck or a trace of the “actor” in the character. You look into the character’s eyes and see somebody different. Heath Ledger delivered this kind of performance. He has never played a role like this before, and when I first heard that he was taking it, I was a little skeptical. He was a great actor, but I wasn’t sure he had the personality to throw himself into Joker without being able to see past it.
Boy was I wrong.
He stole the whole entire show. Who is batman anyway!? When you watch Joker you get mesmerized. The maniacal haunting laugh, the lick lipping, the voice… the utter creepiness. Seriously. I haven’t been this enamored of a character in a long time. It was just pure perfection. Christian Bale gave an awesome performance too, but it wasn’t something I immediately talked about after the movie. All I did was gush about heath ledger’s role. Batman was a safe role, there wasn’t much to consume you.
Acting is all about putting yourself into the role, so much that there’s no seperation between the two. He delivered his performance absolutely beautifully, and even though he’s no longer alive, this was the perfect final performance to remember him by.
As for the movie in its entirety- IT ROCKED! Seriously. I could watch it again and again. There really isn’t anything I would change about it. I was pretty much in a constant state of awe throughout it all. I’m really skeptical usually too, but I’ve been waiting for this damn movie since the day I heard it was coming out. Kudos, dark knight, you made my year.
We’re watching surfing on tv. I’ve been dying to try a water sport (since I live by the water now and probably won’t ever again if we move). AHHHHHHH. I need outdoorsy stuff to keep me sane. I’m going crazy in this apartment!
