Arming Myself for Real Life
Well hey there! I can’t believe I’ve managed to blog this much in one week. This has been pretty much unheard of unless you go back to my college days when I was wound up on Red Bull (Dubb) and drowning in derivatives and investment formulas. I also realize that my blog posts have been breaking every rule of blogging-101 by being obnoxiously long and not broken up into neat, little boxes. SORRY.
This weekend was really hard and temptation slipped in quite a bit since Shane has been gone for work. It’s A LOT more temping to click through FB and Twitter when you have hours and hours in your condo to figure out how to amuse yourself. I still didn’t hit my hour limit though, so 5 points for me! TAKE THAT, SOCIAL CRACK!
Being a Finance and Business major, you probably didn’t expect to hear these words come out of my mouth: I LOVE CREDIT CARDS. No, not because I can buy a shit load of fantastic stuff with them (I actually only have an AMEX and one other card, the AMEX gets paid completely down to zero monthly) but because of all the awesome perks. So I’ve had this one credit card with Citi for the past gazillion years (probably 5 or more) and I’ve been accumulating points on it. Same with my AMEX (which I’m in love with). I finally decided to use my points and shop around for something neat to buy that I wouldn’t otherwise spend money on. I started looking for digital cameras.
I’ve been existing solely off my iPhone for the past 2-3 years which would have been unheard of for the me-from-the-past. She would carry a camera everywhere and impulsively take pictures. I almost got a Digital SLR because I was so into photography, but then I graduated college, real life happened, and I was strapped for time to be an artsy “creative.” Also, the me-in-the-present acquired an unfortunate talent for killing digital cameras. After my last one got demolished I decided I was sick of carrying it around in my purse ANYWAY and didn’t get another one. Now that I’m into DIY house stuff for my other love, CondoSWAG, I realized that the iPhone just isn’t cutting it because 1) the quality is good, but not THAT good, and 2) it’s more effort to plug my phone in, get through iTunes and upload my photos to my specified SWAG folder. I’ve even resorted to simply emailing myself the photos from my phone, which then cuts down on how many I use because HI I’M LAZY and don’t want to take the time to email 50 separate batches.
In an effort to actually ramp up my DIY home decorating blog (CondoSWAG) and because we may have some cool projects coming up that people will actually want to see crispy, sharp and awesome pictures of, I’ve decided to use my many, many points to get a camera. Word of advice: if possible, get gift cards with your rewards. I found that I couldn’t get any *great* cameras through my rewards perks unless I exceeded my points. I started stalking around and saw that I could get 200 bucks in Amazon gift cards with what I had, so I went onto Amazon and found cameras that were WAY BETTER (and also, more expensive) that I could get in that price range which wasn’t possible using just the points. I also realized my AMEX hooks completely up to Amazon to port through my rewards points so I got to add another 20 bucks to my stockpile of Amazon monies. Needless to say, I’m pretty happy.
After much deliberation between Canon and Samsung, I finally ended up buying this pretty, little and thin camera that had a ton of positive reviews and a 16gb SD card. Except it was for free.
Did I mention I LOVE CREDIT CARDS?

I went to play with it in person and was happy with it. It’s small enough so it won’t be annoying to carry around and I can be an obnoxious point-and-shooter wherever I want again. Look out world. The paparazzi is back in black. I’m actually really excited to start using this because I’m really sick of staring at pixelated images of me and Shane when I print them out to frame them. Now that I’m making it a point to document memories, blog more, and be a better fiance, I’ve decided that this purchase fits perfectly into helping me achieve all those goals.
On that note, I just found out that a Tornado was spotted near my house. Like, 5 minutes away. I’ll be shutting down and trying to stay alive. If you don’t see any blog posts in the next day or two from me, don’t be alarmed. I’m probably still alive but just really shitty at keeping up with my own blog. :)
