Firefox 3.5 Official Release… and a video from the canadian.

Sooo ladies and gentlemen, if you’ve been waiting for the official release of Firefox 3.5 … the day has come!
You can find the official download here.
I was using the beta release for a little while, and it’s good but had a lot of bugs to be worked out. I was trying to tweet this about 10 minutes ago using the beta, and it literally kept crashing every time I got four words in. Last night it did the same thing on another website.

Clearly I was being punished by the tech gods for not acting fast enough and downloading the official release before I tweeted.

So! MOZILLA DEVELOPERS! I hope you are hearing my pleas to make sure this official version does not eat itself every 2 seconds and allows me to surf and do work safely and soundly. I have embedded the video off Mozilla’s page explaining the new features of the OR.
IMPORTANT NOTE: His first sentence clearly demonstrates that he is Canadian. It always tickles me to hear someone say “aboot” instead of about. I replayed it twice. Listen carefully and it will brighten up your day!

It's sad that it takes a tragedy for people to see the good in a person.

So I’m sure by now everyone and their mother has heard about Michael Jackson’s death. It was a very, very sad thing and I feel bad for anybody who knew him. I just wanted to write this quick because I’m actually pretty disgusted with how people treat other people these days. Before he died, people talked about how he was a “child molester”, a pedophile, strange, and all these other things. Nobody actually knew whether these were true, who knows, maybe the parents just wanted a ton of money and he happened to be the target. What’s that you say? He hung out with little kids all the time? Yes… generally when someone had a childhood surrounded by fame, and doesn’t have a normal one, they tend to live vicariously through the lives of others.

My mother grew up listening to michael jackson, so I have too, as well as seen him in concert overseas. He was an amazing entertainer, when you remove all the crap that the media threw into the mix. The media is the media.. don’t believe everything you hear. I am SLIGHTLY disgusted because people who were saying all these negative things about him before he died are now celebrating his life. This is a good thing, in a way, because it shows that people are willing to remember the good in other people and forget the bad in times of loss. But it also makes me sick because it takes something as tragic as him DYING (you can probably call that a total tragedy because he won’t ever be coming back for his world tour that was planned, or for his friends or family) for people to FINALLY just say he was a good person and he was a great entertainer. It’s like having to kick someone in the ass to say “Thank you” when you hold the door for them.

Then of course, there are those negative, pessimistic people who are, for lack of a better word, assholes, because all they can say about him is “Thank god he’s dead. One less pedophile sicko in the world”. Come on, SERIOUSLY? He was just a regular person like you and me. He was a human, a philanthropist, living and breathing. What has happened to our world where it’s okay to completely trash someone and applaud their death? For something that happened to be publicized by the media. Plenty of people are money hungry, and it wouldn’t surprise me if people were just going after him because he was a little strange and had lots of money. He did plenty of wonderful things for the world. Everybody has a right to live, and nobody has the right to celebrate someone’s death. Unless it is Adoph Hitler. In that case I am all for it. Celebrate away.

So for now, I hope you GOOD people in the world who choose to help somebody live on even after their death, are listening to plenty of Michael Jackson. He will always be known as the King of Pop, and his legend will live on just as Elvis’ did. Plenty of entertainers in the music world today say that they would never be where they were if it wasn’t for him. All those awesome dances you see nowadays.. well guess where they came from? Watch some videos and maybe you will finally realize he lives on through everybody, and he helped make entertainment what it was today. RIP and make sure you come back as a zombie to eat everyone who is spitting on your grave. I will leave you with my most favorite, all time best live performance EVER. Tell me this didn’t influence dance today.

I can see the light of day again!

I am so sorry for my haitus. As many of you know I’ve been hiding in my little cave of an office surrounded by pages upon pages of magical mathematical/calculus/financial equations ready to pretty much kill myself. HOWEVER! I just took my last 8 billion exams this morning and I am now ready to start updating again! Well kind of. I have another class I start monday but I won’t be nearly as busy as before. SO REALLY! Now you can check back and find content :D

Pony up.

Okay, this is totally irrelevant to anything going on in the world today. I realize there are many things happening in the financial and political world, but at this moment I frankly don’t give a damn. I don’t have time to write about any of that stuff but… to counter act this horridly selfish post, I am leaving this link in here, so please click it when you’re done drooling over the same thing I am: NUCLEAR WAR!

Okay so… CAN SOMEONE PLEASE GET ME THIS CAR!!! DEAR GOD!!! I am in love. When I get my first job I am totally getting this amazingly nasty car. Black stripes on black, shelby mustang gt500. Black rims, blacked out headlights and taillights and dark tint. I think I might die just thinking about it. MY DREAM CAR.

What up links!

ahhh so. I’ve heard ALOT OF THINGS this weekend in regards to the tech world. I’m sure you know I’m just absolutely dying to write something on them but I really don’t have the time.. so I thought I would throw in an honorable mention on some things. For one, this thing is absolutely AMAZING! It was presented during E3. Watch the whole thing and I promise you that you will either be severely creeped out (yet still very much intrigued) or you’ll want to go out and get one because it’s sheer awesomeness at its best .Creepy ‘Milo’

Next up! A little birdy told me about something called “google wave” that is in the works. I signed up to be alerted when it is actually released (it will be later this year) so hopefully I can do a review of some sorts on it. My whole life is basically on google. I’ve had yahoo before… and I hated it. I’ve had live/msn/whatever it’s named now, and yes I liked it too but it didn’t incorporate everything that google/gmail did. I have my school account on live right now but I barely use it. ANYWAY! GOOGLE WAVE! You can read about it here. It will be the end all of all services. It’s one big collaborative site of awesomeness. Do check it out, and sign up. Cause the more people who use gmail, the more fun I can have with them to make humdrum emailing exciting again!

One last thing! I have noticed, in my tech stalking, that facebook will be incorporating user names? What is this, myspace? Seriously. One thing I hate/hated about myspace is how you can never tell who the hell is who because their name is something like “SoUThErN BaRbIe prInZesS thAt wiLL Rock YeR WoRLD”. Really now, facebook? They claim it’s so that you have a URL to give people to view your facebook, but why on earth can’t they just type in your name? I’m dreading this. Please do not become myspace or else I will… well I dunno. I guess I just won’t use it.

I will give my goodbyes in typical myspace-speak. “pEaZe ouT yo. LAWL leave me a CoMMeNt!”.

Now when you tell people with barely any vision to "look" on the bright side, it will no longer be an awful and rude pun.

So we all know I am a HUGE supporter of stem cell research, and I was practically running in circles when I heard that they had lifted the ban on it. We should also know (most of you) that I am practically as close to blind as one can be while still having vision. I was over joyed when I found this article retweeted by FirstDigg.

To sum up the article, the scientists have worked their magic on three patients, with little or no vision, and waited patiently to see the results. Essentially what they have learned is that when they extract stem cells from the patient’s working eye, and culture them into a contact for 10 days, it can be worn by the patient. After it’s worn by the patient for 10-14 days, the stem cells will actually start to recolonize and repair the cornea. Two of the LEGALLY BLIND patients can now read the big letters on those little eye seeing chart thingys, and one who was pretty damn close to blind can now pass the vision part of the driver’s license exam. While this has only been involving three patients so far, I think it is safe to assume that this is an amazing breakthrough for science… especially for us ‘blind as a bat’ people. It has been 18 months since the experiment and they are still enjoying their miraculous vision.

I’m hoping that this is something that will keep improving as they work out the glitches. If I really think hard about this, since the body is using their own stem cells, there is an extremely low risk of the rejection like the kind that can happen with artificial corneal implants.

While I would like to say that this is something I would try, I can’t particularly vouch for it just yet. The improvement on the vision isn’t extraordinary enough to make me put some serious thought into it. I enjoy having perfect vision with my contacts and I don’t think I would sacrifice that and dish out the money for a surgery that will give me sub-par vision. I do agree that this is fantastic for extreme cases where the patients are next to blind and really want any kind of improvement at all. It is truly wonderful for them.

I really, REALLY wanted lasik, but I have a really bad astigmatism that isn’t even the same in both eyes, so I’m not sure if I can be an ideal patient for the procedure. That, and there’s still the risk of going blind or the surgery not working with that. I watched a video of it once and it is some seriously creepy and life scarring stuff. Imagine seeing a laser cut and fold over a cornea. I have a severe eye-phobia and I just wanted to throw up all over the place. Not to mention you’re only mildly sedated during the operation, and for the next few days you have to look like an old person that can’t drive correctly with the serious size of the blinders you get to rock. Really though, wearing contacts all the time is awful, and even having a pair of glasses is STILL just as bad because you have something attached to your face. I can only hope they perfect this procedure soon, because it can help a lot of people! ANOTHER WIN FOR SCIENCE! HOORAY!

PS: Stay tuned for my next post. It is completely unrelated to anything science or news worthy, but it’s pretty damn hilarious. It has to do with me, and old irate guy on campus, and getting the cops called. It will be a hilarious read, I promise you that.
