Why so serious?

So first off, I would like to say- GO SEE DARK KNIGHT. IMMEDIATELY. Preferably in an i-max movie theater if you have one near by. This was the most amazing movie I think I’ve seen in a long time. It was sold out in i-max for three days/nights in a row. We finally stole tickets to the 1:30 am showing on sunday night/monday morning. I had to plug my ears and cover my eyes the whole weekend because everybody and their mother was talking about it. Definitely worth the $15.00 in i-max. Go see. Now.

Both Christian Bale and Heath Ledger put out astonishing performances. I’m a little bias towards Joker however.

For those who haven’t heard (or live under an extremely large rock that covers most of the world) Heath Ledger died in January of a prescription drug overdose. This was his last movie, along with some other one that was in production. I’m not really sure what it was called and I’m really too lazy to look it up.

Don’t get me wrong, Jack Nicholson delivered a pretty good Joker, but Heath just took it to a completely new and sinister level. Now, I know acting takes talent… and alot of it to get on the big screen. But there are some actors who take on a role, and when the movie premieres, you don’t even realize who the actor is anymore. You can’t see a speck or a trace of the “actor” in the character. You look into the character’s eyes and see somebody different. Heath Ledger delivered this kind of performance. He has never played a role like this before, and when I first heard that he was taking it, I was a little skeptical. He was a great actor, but I wasn’t sure he had the personality to throw himself into Joker without being able to see past it.

Boy was I wrong.

He stole the whole entire show. Who is batman anyway!? When you watch Joker you get mesmerized. The maniacal haunting laugh, the lick lipping, the voice… the utter creepiness. Seriously. I haven’t been this enamored of a character in a long time. It was just pure perfection. Christian Bale gave an awesome performance too, but it wasn’t something I immediately talked about after the movie. All I did was gush about heath ledger’s role. Batman was a safe role, there wasn’t much to consume you.

Acting is all about putting yourself into the role, so much that there’s no seperation between the two. He delivered his performance absolutely beautifully, and even though he’s no longer alive, this was the perfect final performance to remember him by.

As for the movie in its entirety- IT ROCKED! Seriously. I could watch it again and again. There really isn’t anything I would change about it. I was pretty much in a constant state of awe throughout it all. I’m really skeptical usually too, but I’ve been waiting for this damn movie since the day I heard it was coming out. Kudos, dark knight, you made my year.

We’re watching surfing on tv. I’ve been dying to try a water sport (since I live by the water now and probably won’t ever again if we move). AHHHHHHH. I need outdoorsy stuff to keep me sane. I’m going crazy in this apartment!
